Wine tasting

Okanagan Vineyards Gewartztraminer 22$ for 1/2 L. Sharp and crisp, sweet with an OK finish. We usually prefer a bit sweeter wine. Chels says 3/10. Probably won't get it again but it'll do.

We are getting a new water meter!!

Ok so other than marvelling at being able to update the blog by email, the city decided to install our water meter. I hear the water turning on so it must be working.

Thanksgiving....

This is a picture of our niece Zoey.  Nick's girlfriend Sarah is an AMAZING photographer and took this picture (and 400 others) while we were home for thanksgiving. It was such a blessing to be back and surrounded by friends and family.  We got to spend the whole weekend with my siblings and their significant others. It was such a treasure to have everybody home for my parents 25th wedding anniversary. BJ's dad and brother also joined us which was another delight and made our weekend that much more special. It is sometimes hard to be so far away from our families and friends. They say distance makes the heart grow fonder and since we have moved away I can attest to that. So thank your all for making that weekend as enjoyable time as we had at our wedding. It truly was a treasure to spend time with everyone and have a break from our busy life in Fort St. John. We look foward to many more family get togethers throughout the years to come.

New Goals for the week

1) Go out for a Movie
2) Have a glass (or Two) of wine
3) Fold Laundry
4) Call Family
5) Write Thank You Cards (Pictures should be here soon)

So I need to do a presentation on Leadership...Here is the work path I am going to follow:
- Leadership Effectiveness Quiz (This could also be used in a 360 Review of your own management style)
- A review of Leadership Traits
- Review traits of a Leader as coach
- Review Blocks to Leadership

I was watching Hockey last week and Sidney Crosby said a quote related to leadership and core group following the post game interview. I really wish I was able to find out what he said. It was on CBC...hopefully I can find it somewhere....

Today Chelsea comes home :):) I am so happy that she will be home and Parker will be as well!

Testing. 123

Fwd: Testing the Email Update

Apparently there is a feature that allows you to send and email to your blog and it will automatically post it if it is received from a certain email address. This is pretty cool. I might not even log into blogger, I'll just send emails to it. Lets see if this works with a photo.

Like we don't have enough stuff online already...

To all whom all these presents come, greetings...

So I figured that Chelsea and I need a place to post our common stuff. Our pictures, our thoughts...we are married now so we share money, share the dog, share the bed. Why not share our online space.

I just got back from the APEG BC AGM in Kelowna. There were some interesting speakers and sessions. They were mainly geared towards project management in a setting where there are specific people selected for a specific project and thats all they work on until its done. Very different from our way of working where we can work on a million different projects every day. I find if very difficult to bounce around from project to project as it comes across my desk. Every time you need to stop and totally change your thinking, you have to dump out all the info from the last job and fill back up with the new job. Mentally taxing.

There was alot of talk about the different Generations in the work place. Baby Boomers just work work work then they die. Generation X are the rebels, they take life first and work second and Generation Y( or the Millennials) have grown up with technology around them and want to be challenged all the time in the work place. There was some talk on how to deal with each generation of worker.

Baby Boomer - Wants Respect, They will help you when asked, They should avoid giving ''advice'' or telling old war stories when trying to pass along knowledge, one job/employer for life
Generation X - I kind of forget about this one....but something about don't ask them to come in on weekends unless there is a reward, maybe 3-4 employers per lifetime
Generation Y - More confortable with electronic communication, will probably change jobs/get fired/etc. from 12 to 15 jobs over a life time (what are you gonna do...fire me?) More flighty, needs to constantly be given increasing challenges every few months to stay interested.

I might put myself in between Gen X and Y. Not sure what that means for me but I can defintly tell the researchers do did this stuff that they are right, I would agree with their conclusions.

Stuff to do:
Organize Goal setting exercises for Office
Discuss Electronic Plan Signatures for wells not yet submitted to SG
Set goals for home
Fold Laundry
Walk the Dog
Remember to Blog again sometime
Call Family. :)
